Motto migrated FIS’s established video platform and extensive archive in two months, creating a flexible foundation for streaming, metadata, sponsorship and automated content workflows.
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has selected Motto as a technology supplier for its digital video platform.
In just two months, FIS and Motto migrated the established international service and its extensive video archive to Motto’s technology infrastructure. The renewed platform launched at watch.fis-ski.com on 26 August 2026, ahead of the 2026/27 season.
At its core is an integrated and easy-to-use platform that brings together streaming, content management, metadata, sponsorship and publishing workflows. It gives FIS the capabilities needed to operate an international video service from one environment, while making it easier to bring the right content and stories to fans.
FIS manages a broad international sports ecosystem. Its video content covers multiple disciplines, competitions, seasons, events and athletes, supported by an extensive archive.
Operating a platform at this scale involves more than delivering live streams. Content needs to be ingested, enriched, organised, published and made available in the right markets. Editorial teams need the freedom to highlight the athletes, disciplines, competitions and stories that matter at a particular moment.
FIS wanted a platform that could bring these activities together, connect with its internal systems and reduce the manual effort required to manage its video offering. The technology also needed to support existing territorial broadcast agreements and media-rights requirements.
The complete platform and archive migration had to be delivered within two months.
Motto provides FIS with an integrated platform for managing its live, on-demand and archive content. From a single environment, the FIS team can manage:
Bringing these capabilities together makes the platform easier to operate. Teams can manage connected workflows without having to repeat the same work across separate systems.
Motto manages the underlying technology, allowing FIS to continue developing its video proposition without having to build and maintain the infrastructure itself.
A strong video experience depends on more than the content itself. It also depends on the information that connects each video to its wider sporting context.
Motto’s metadata platform allows FIS to structure content around its own ecosystem. Videos can be connected to disciplines, competitions, seasons, events and athletes.
This creates a consistent foundation for organising, finding and presenting content. It gives the FIS team greater control over what appears across the platform and makes it easier for fans to discover relevant coverage.
FIS can also use this structure to put the spotlight on important parts of the sport. This could be a leading athlete, an emerging discipline, a major competition, a historic performance or a story that deserves greater visibility.
Metadata therefore becomes more than a way to categorise videos. It gives FIS the editorial flexibility to bring important stories forward and build richer content journeys around them.
The platform also gives FIS practical tools to create value for its commercial partners.
For FIS, Motto delivered a configurable hero banner that can feature title sponsors or results sponsors on an event-by-event basis. Each event can therefore provide the appropriate partner with prominent and contextual visibility within the platform.
Because this capability is built into Motto, the FIS team can manage sponsor placements as part of its normal content workflow. It does not require separate development for each competition or activation.
By connecting sponsorship placements to event metadata, FIS can give partners visibility around the content they support while retaining control over how and where each sponsor appears.
This creates a scalable way to activate commercial partnerships across the platform and makes sponsorship a natural part of the digital fan experience.
The platform integrates with FIS’s internal systems and supports the automation of complex publishing and content-management workflows.
Content, metadata and their relationships can move through the platform with less manual intervention. This reduces repetitive work, improves consistency and makes it easier to manage a growing volume of live and on-demand content.
The FIS team retains control over presentation and distribution while gaining more time for content, innovation and the fan experience.
Content availability by market continues to follow FIS’s territorial broadcast agreements and media rights.
Moving an established international platform and its extensive archive was a significant undertaking.
Motto worked closely with FIS to understand its existing service, internal systems, operational workflows and rights requirements. The platform, integrations and archive were migrated within two months, allowing the renewed service to launch ahead of the new season.
The result is not simply a replacement video platform. It is a better-integrated foundation that is easier to operate and equipped to support FIS’s future plans.
FIS’s video offering continues to grow across live events, on-demand programming and archive content.
With streaming, metadata, sponsorship and content management connected within the same foundation, FIS can introduce new experiences without rebuilding its underlying technology.
The team can create more relevant content journeys, respond quickly to editorial and commercial priorities, and make better use of the depth of content available across its sports.
The platform gives FIS the flexibility to evolve while supporting the international scale and complexity of its operation.
Delivering the migration in two months required close cooperation, trust and hard work across FIS, Motto and the wider project team.
Ruhel Ali, Senior Digital Product Manager at FIS, played a central role in shaping a platform that reflects how FIS works and what its digital team needs. The shared objective was clear: offer more value to ski and snowboard fans while operating the platform more efficiently.
For Patrick Plaatje, founder and CEO of Motto, the project brings together much of what the company has built and learned over the past two years.
Motto has worked to show that sports organisations can move quickly without compromising flexibility or control. Seeing that work come together through a multi-year partnership with FIS is a major milestone for the company.
Patrick is proud of the technology, but especially of the people behind it. The launch was made possible by the commitment of Ruhel Ali, Othilie Scheie, Jessica Jeremaes, Pete Sahota and the many other contributors across FIS, Motto and the wider project team.
Motto thanks FIS for the trust it has placed in the company.
